SERVING THE CHRIST
Ruth Winocur
Contemplating the topic of “Serving the Christ” brings many questions
to mind: How do we go about serving the Christ? Is there more than one way to
do this? If so, which is the best way? What is the range of service we can
provide? What must be included? What
must be excluded?
Let us start by reviewing the Person(s) of the Christ. Firstly, there
is the Cosmic Christ, that exalted Being who was the highest initiate of
the Sun Period, a great
In accordance to the Will of God, and in furtherance of His Divine
Plan, a ray from this great Being, the Cosmic Christ, was sent to earth to
enter into the body of the man, Jesus, at his baptism in the River Jordan by
John, the Baptist. Thus we have the Historical Christ, that composite
Being ; namely, the Christ Spirit in the body of Jesus whom we call Christ
Jesus.
Then we have the Planetary Christ. The same ray from the Cosmic
Christ that occupied the dense body of Jesus, entered the earth by way of the
blood flowing on
Finally, we have the Christ Within that is to be developed in
our hearts and minds during our sojourn on earth in the dense body. This is the
one to whom Paul referred when he said those memorable words, “until the Christ
be formed in you”.
When contemplating these different, but conjoined, personages of the
Christ it becomes apparent that it is easier to serve those who are closest to
us. Since much of mankind do not yet have the Christ Within at this time, let
us look first upon the Planetary Christ. To understand his function, we have to
look at the needs he came to fulfill.
At the time of the crucifixion the Desire Body of the earth was filthy.
It contained the sum total of all the passions and desires of mankind,
especially dark from ages of brutality, murder, hatred and sin of all kinds. It
was so bad that life on the earth could not progress further and was in danger
of dying out. The vibrations of earth were so low and coarse that there was no
longer any fine material available with which to build new bodies for incoming
souls. The only path left was that of total destruction and annihilation. In
order to save the world God made a plan that by using a ray of the Cosmic
Christ, He could send it into the Desire World of the earth to cleanse it, or
transmute these potent negative forces with the high and pure vibrations of the
Christ Ray. This made finer and purer material available for incarnating souls,
thus providing a means for further evolution and saving the world from
extinction.
Now we will consider the Historic Christ. In order for God’s plan to
work, He had to educate the people. How could they learn what was required of
them and what part they should play in the divine plan? The Ten Commandments
apparently were not adequate. Prohibiting laws did not work for a people with
free will who did not understand the reasons behind said laws. Thus He sent a great teacher, this same
Christ Spirit, to enter into the body of a man of great purity and knowledge
named Jesus. So it came to pass, in the 30th year of the life of
Jesus, he caused himself to be baptized in the River Jordan whereby he gave his
Dense and Vital Bodies to the Christ Spirit to use in teaching the people.
Indeed, Christ Jesus was the greatest of all teachers the world has ever known,
and his teaching was the light of the world and the salvation and life of the
people. He said as much when he uttered these words, “I am the light, the life
and the way”. Let us look at these few words closely. “I am the light”. We
cannot escape the fact that the knowledge Christ Jesus disseminated was
urgently needed for man at that time and is still needed today. It is our only
real guideline. “I am the life”. Obviously he was talking about eternal life available
to us by following his word and keeping his commands. “I am the way”. Yes, his
way is the only way to eternal life. Here he is the role model and his way is
the way of love and wisdom in all its aspects.
Here we are 2000+ years later. The Planetary Christ is still giving
forth his loving, high vibrations to help us, to dilute and/or transmute our
murderous and vengeful impulses into purity and light. He is still holding open
the door to heaven. By now we should have learned the laws of love and forgiveness,
of understanding and patience, so that it would no longer be necessary for the
Planetary Christ to cleanse and/or transmute the hatred and jealousy polluting
our environment.
But we do not seem to have changed much in all this time. Can this base
creature we call man ever become god-like? Can he stop his negative thoughts
and emotions? Can he be patient and use sympathy, understanding and compassion?
Is he forgiving? There is not much evidence that this is the case. Can he look
for the good in everything? This does not appear to be the case either.
Therefore, when one does not look for the good in everything, what does he see?
The answer is obvious. Do you think that man may be so egotistical that he
thinks his way is the only way? Will he continue to straggle behind until there
is no longer any chance of redemption or any way to evolve? Will man end up
being stripped down to the Virgin Spirit and left to try again in some
far-flung distant future? Perish the thought!
At the present time there doesn’t appear to be much chance for the
release of the Planetary Christ from within earth’s Desire Body, also known as
the Desire World. Mankind continues to incur more and more karmic debt, the
level of which is horrendous once again. Look at the world around us. What do
you see? And man, with his huge ego, doesn’t seem capable of love, kindness,
forgiveness, understanding or compassion, except perhaps on special and rare
occasions. This is just not good enough. We are still in big trouble.
It was just such a state of mankind that necessitated the appearance of
the Historical Christ in the first place.
We needed a great teacher to show us the way, to teach us spiritual
values, to be a role model and to bring to our attention those unseen, but
vital, spiritual laws. Thus the composite man, Christ Jesus, walked the earth
and taught men those great lessons embodied in his parables and allegories, his
discourses and plain examples. Those who were not closed off in mind were able
to follow him. Those who were limited by fixed beliefs or stood to loose
material power and wealth were unable to do so and were, therefore, left behind
in their ignorance and pride.
Perhaps God, in His infinite wisdom, knew that man had to have
knowledge in order to bolster his failing capacity for love. This was given to
us as well in the person of Christ Jesus. He was not only the “Lord of Love”
but was the “Light of the World”. If we are unable to feel love and compassion,
then we can at least learn to analyze and use the mind to further our evolution
and to make correct decisions. Study, concentration and meditation are required
to do this. It may take considerable
time to accomplish, but the result is worth the effort. Much knowledge can be
obtained this way that will, hopefully, lead to an understanding of love and an
expression of its qualities.
The Cosmic Christ is concerned with the working out of the Divine Plan. Anything we do that furthers that Plan assists or serves the Cosmic Christ and anything that deters, retards or prevents the accomplishment of the Plan is contrary to the will of the Cosmic Christ. When we serve all the other aspects of the Christ we automatically serve the Cosmic Christ. When we fail him, we fail everything.
Let us pause and look at this for a moment: The war in heaven has been and is raging. The powers of darkness are warring with the forces of light. Heaven is composed of the finest of vibrations; vibrations capable of initiating events on earth, thereby reflecting on the microcosmic plane those events transpiring on the macrocosmic plane. The action is reciprocal. Whether we know it or not, every time we take action that is not born of love and wisdom, we are assisting the forces of darkness. It is so easy not to notice or not to reflect long enough to act out of love and wisdom. Haste, pressure and stress are tools of the powers of darkness. We must not let ourselves be rushed into anything, but rather meditate and act judiciously.
Christ Jesus told us that “No man can serve two masters: For either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon.” This is easier said than done. St. Paul struggled with this very issue. He said, “For we know that the law is spiritual; but we are carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do, I allow not; for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then, I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: For to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would, I do not: But the evil which I would not, that I do. Now, if I do that which I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law that when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ‘O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death’?”
When we are truly able to walk in the footsteps of the Christ, we become one with him. When Saul, as tax collector, persecuted the Christians, Christ said to him: “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” Not only was Christ addressing the man who was to become Paul, but he was making an important statement to the world. He was saying that those who followed his commands and who were known as Christians were part of him. He made no distinction between himself and the true believers.
Finally, let us address, in particular, the Christ within. He is the wonderful miracle to be born one
day in all mankind. The only way this can be done is to live a moral and
ethical life of virtue, and purity. We were shown what this means by Christ
Jesus. “He made himself of no reputation”, that is he cast his little ego
aside; all praise was to God, and he said, “of myself I can do nothing”. There
was “No guile in him”. He was never false in any way; no plotting, no scheming.
He was steadfast in the face of temptation, loyal to his Father in all things,
even the death upon the cross. It is only by emulating Christ Jesus that we can
approach this magnificent event, the birth of the Christ within. And by
‘emulating’ is meant “living the life”, the holy life, in all sincerity and
fullness, exhibiting all the qualities of love and “doing all things to the
glory of God”. We should be cognizant of the Seven Deadly Sins, making sure to
eradicate them from our being. They are: anger, pride, envy, lust, laziness,
greed, and gluttony. All are referring to control of the Desire Body. If we can
honestly look at ourselves, we will be able to find some, if not all of these
sins present, within ourselves.
When we have succeeded in overcoming all these things and thereby
prepared ourselves, the Christ will be born within, and we will bring into
captivity all things to the glory of God, the Father. We will know all things
seen and unseen. We will have absolutely right thought, right word and right
actions. Christ Jesus will become one with us and we will become one with him
and with the Father. Everything we do in righteousness, in truth, in love and
of the spirit will be Serving the Christ.
ow do we serve the historical Christ? How do we serve the cosmic Chhriat? How do we serve the interplanetary Christ?
